Welsh National Sailing Team

The RYA Cymru Wales Youth Squad programme supports 40 sailors under the age of 18.

Junior and Youth sailors participate in both residential and non-residential camps, where they receive high-quality coaching from RYA Cymru Wales coaches. During these camps, they develop essential skills, including:

  • Independence
  • In-depth knowledge of boat and sail mechanics
  • Psychological and physiological support
  • Assistance in program development

Applications for spots on the Welsh National Sailing Team will open in August. Be sure to review the 2026-2027 Welsh National Sailing Team Selection Policy

5-6 camps between October and April

Training takes place in North, South and West Wales. Sailors are encouraged to attend Welsh events, class ranking events, squad indicator events and to spend as much time on the water as possible outside organised training. Sailors will be offered event support by RYA Cymru Wales coaches at Welsh and class ranking events.

Multi stacking trailers are available to loan FREE of charge to help with travel logistics.

The Welsh National Sailing Team training is heavily subsidised by Sport Wales, however, a contribution is required from sailors towards both the squad training sessions and event support.

Squad fees 

£135 for a 2day residential camp

£85 for a 2day non-residential camp

The fee is per sailor

The total Squad fees will range from £525-£610 depending on the number of camps. 

Squad fees can be paid in one lump sum or spread over a 6month period via a standing order, we will work with you to setup a payment plan. 

2026-2027 Welsh National Sailing Team Selection Policy

Welsh National Sailing Team Squad Applications will open in early September. To be eligibile sailors need to have completed the selection events in the 'Welsh National Sailing Team Selection Policy'

RYA Cymru Wales Academy and Post-Youth Support

The Welsh Sailing Youth and Junior Academy is for sailors who have the potential to win medals at National and International Junior, Youth & Senior competition in time. The Academy is open for selection at various times but the main entry point will be in the Winter.
